Ever curious about what the crime rate is in your neighborhood? Well if you have a family, you are probably most concerned about how safe it is for your family. If you happen to be in a not so good neighborhood, you can actually help protect your family and valuables from specific crimes. You can not control the people and their behaviors, but you can control how you secure your home!

Whether you choose to do everything yourself, hire a handyman or a locksmith – we highly suggest that you take into strong consideration to improve your home’s security level!

<a href="http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/fl/miami/crime/"title="Miami Crime Rates Map" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">See if your neighborhood is more safe or the least safe – and use those findings to help decide the methods you use to ensure the security of your home.

Methods you might use:

Installing High Security Locks on all external doors.

Installing a Security System, such as ADT’s Security Services.

Securing your current windows or installing secure windows.

Added locking mechanisms to external doors.

Or just hire a big body guard to protect the house… just kidding!

Alright, so you get the idea of things you can do to protect yourself where ever you live. Of course there are things that you cannot completely protect yourself from. Although, majority of crimes are committed by amateurs. Just simple additions to our home security will decrease the amount of opportunist amateurs. Really, it’s as simple as that!

To help keep your lock in working condition, you will need to lubricate your lock a few times a year. You can use lubricants like WD-40 to get the job done. All you will need to do is just stick the straw into the key hole and then spray. Make sure to wipe off any excess lubricant off the knob. This doesn’t take much time out of your lives, and the benefits will be helping prevent mechanical failures.

Tip #1 Summary: Use a lubricant on locks to help prevent mechanical failures.

You have recently moved into your home, your checklist might look something like this:

Change your address with the postal office.

Change your address with your utilities.

Move everything into new home.

Clean old home.

Enjoy your first night in your new home.

What’s missing is, getting your locks re-keyed! This is very important. If you rent, you obviously know that there are many other people that have rented your new home in the past. They could have made copies of your keys when they lived there and never returned them to the landlord. You literally have no idea how many other people will have a key to your door.

You don’t have to change your locks, but you should get them re-keyed. The process is quick and it’s well worth it if you are not looking to buy new locks. Re-keying is a process that changes the pin configuration of the lock, your old keys wont work, and old tenants keys wont work and you will be assigned with a NEW key to use.

What better way to move into a new home and feel safe to begin with?

So just give us a call Miami locals and get your locks re-keyed! 305-704-3024
